Evaluation of Agent Concepts for Service Provision in Third Ge

The paper presents an approach to a combined service and location management for 3rd generation mobile networks in a deregulated, competitive telecommunication market. This approach enables the provision of tailored services which allow users to customise them individually. The resulting user profile is stored in so-called User Agents that act on behalf of their respective users in the fixed network part when allocating resources for service provision. The User Agent also keeps track of the user's current geographical position. Various ways of arranging this agent in the fixed network part are demonstrated, and a performance analysis is done for the two most promising concepts.
